HERMES
art & design, 17.05.2012
"Volker Hermes’ main interest lies in the surfaces, dynamics and
composition of classical motives of paintings. Hermes analyses works of
exemplary status in art history by drawing them on large canvas screens
with Edding and other permanent markers. An example of this is the
delicate and elaborate depiction of a horse based on the painting by
Henri Regnault. Here he took the motive of the horse out of its visual
context and focused on the dynamic movement of the horse’s body, and the
spectacular luxuriance of the animal’s mane."
